Aston Villa have signed highly-rated Tottenham midfielder Josh Onomah on a season-long loan.

The 20-year old, who starred in the England U20 World Cup-winning side earlier this summer, joins Villa after agreeing a new four-year contract with Spurs until 2021.

Onomah featured under Mauricio Pochettino in Tottenham's pre-season tour of USA, starting against Paris Saint-Germain and Roma in the International Champions Cup.

However, the midfielder has been allowed to leave the North London outfit ahead of the new campaign, with Steve Bruce winning the chase for the exciting prospect.

"I can't wait to get started," Onomah told Aston Villa's official website.

"This is a huge football club and I want to really make my mark here and prove to be a player the manager can rely on.

"I know that promotion is the aim and I am here to help us achieve that."

Onomah progressed through the Tottenham academy before making his professional Premier League debut in November 2015.

The 20-year old made 12 appearances for Spurs last season and is eligible for Aston Villa's opening Sky Bet Championship clash with Hull City on Saturday, live on Sky Sports Main Event.
