Aston Villa left-back Jordan Amavi is close to completing a loan move to Marseille, Sky sources understand.

The French club's initial offer to buy the player was rejected by Villa but it appears the clubs are close to agreeing a deal involving a loan fee, together with an option for the player to be bought permanently at a later date.

The Sky Bet Championship side agreed to sell the 23-year-old to Sevilla earlier this summer, only for the proposed £8m transfer to collapse when the Spanish club claimed he failed a medical.

Sevilla angered Villa by requesting to take Amavi on loan instead, just a day after pulling out of the transfer deal.

Amavi, who is currently in France, joined the Villans from Ligue 1 side Nice in July 2015 for £9m but saw his first season at Villa Park cut short when he sustained a serious injury while on international duty.
