Graeme Murty opens up on the challenges he faces after being named permanent manager of Rangers

Graeme Murty says he will have to change his attitude to management after being handed the Rangers job on a permanent basis.

Following the sacking of Pedro Caixinha in October, Murty, 43, was appointed as manager of the Scottish Premiership club for the remainder of the season last week after nine games as caretaker boss.

The former Reading midfielder admits he will have to change his approach to adapt to full-time management as he prepares Rangers for Saturday's Old Firm derby against Celtic, live on Sky Sports Football HD.

"[My attitude to management] is going to have to change because as a youth coach you are looking at development and long-term plans," he said.

"As an interim boss you are making sure you have a happy squad and everything is okay for the guy who is going to come in. You are making sure the club is in a good place.

"But now I have an opportunity to change the direction of the squad, its playing style and actually mould it to how I want it to look.

Celtic captain Scott Brown expects to face an improved Rangers side under manager Graeme Murty in the Old Firm derby on Saturday

"[The team should have] a real aggressive nature which is ready to stand up to any challenge.

"I think from all of my time in football as a player, coach and manager - I like players who can take ownership and lead. Not only in what they do, but with what they say and how they present themselves.

"I like people who make the those around them better. I think players should have characteristics that add to the collective and have a positive influence on those around them. I'd like to think my teams are positive."
