Aston Villa striker Scott Hogan is expected to complete his loan move to Sheffield United on Wednesday evening or Thursday morning, Sky Sports News understands.

United manager Chris Wilder tried to sign the Republic of Ireland forward in the last window, and has beaten a number of Sky Bet Championship clubs, including Bristol City, to clinch a deal for the rest of the season.

Hogan joined Villa from Brentford in the mid-season window two years ago for a fee of £9m - potentially rising to £12m.

He scored just six times in 37 games during the 2017-18 Sky Bet Championship season.

The 26-year old has since fallen out of favour at Villa Park, and has yet to score this season, having been restricted to just six league appearances off the bench. His only start came in the FA Cup defeat to Swansea earlier this month.
