New signing Odhiambo keen to impress

Southend have secured the services of strikers Eric Odhiambo and Leon Clarke on loan deals. Odhiambo has joined The Shrimpers on a one-month loan deal from Leicester City and could go straight into the squad for Saturday's league game against Brighton. Clarke, aged 22, who struggled to earn a regular place during his time at The Owls, is contracted at the club until the end of 2007. Odhiambo, aged 18, made two senior appearances for The Foxes, both in the Carling Cup where he came on as a substitute.

Prolific

The starlet boasts an impressive record at under 18 level where he scored 20 goals in 19 matches for Leicester. The forward is determined to succeed at Roots Hall and is keen to impress Martin Allen's eventual successor. "I scored 20 goals for the under 18s so hopefully I can replicate that form into the first team here at Roots Hall," Odhiambo told the club's official website. "I am at the stage in my career where I want to get some experience and Southend are giving me the opportunity to do that.
Opportunity
"The main reason I decided to come here was that they have offered me the opportunity to play and if I can be anywhere near as prolific as last season then everyone will be happy. "The plan is to put myself in the thoughts of any new manager that might come in at Leicester but also I want to do well for Southend."
