Australian shot-stopper assessing his options

Oldham goalkeeper Les Pogliacomi could be forced to retire following "disastrous" results on exploratory knee surgery. The Australian, 31, went into hospital on Monday after he had an operation on the troublesome area last year but the problem persisted. Following a surgeon's assessment, the news was not positive and the Latics first-choice stopper is now assessing his options. A statement on the club's official website said: "Unfortunately, the findings were not what Les was looking for. In fact the results were disastrous for the Sydney-born stopper. "Pogliacomi has been offered extensive correctional surgery to micro fractures and the regeneration of the cartilage, which would incur 12 months rehabilitation. "Les is at the moment considering his options and talking with his wife Lia about their future."
