Defender punished for negative comments in magazine

Bundesliga strugglers Energie Cottbus have suspended defender Igor Mitreski after he publicly criticised the club. The Macedonian has spent most of his this season warming the bench and was quoted in German football magazine Kicker complaining that the squad lacked fitness and the club had a bad atmosphere. The 29-year-old has subsequently been punished for his outburst and has seen himself isolated, with the club suspending him from first-team training and fining the player 10,000 Euros. The incident is something which the club could do without as they currently sit bottom of the Bundesliga with just six points from 11 matches. Cottbus coach Bojan Prasnikar was unsurprisingly unhappy with his defender and explained that the club had no option but to punish the player. He said: "We have to accept each other within the squad and everyone has to be aware of his responsibility for our sporting goal. "Anyone not behaving in the appropriate manner must expect to face the consequences."
