Gerken leaves as Gobern arrives

Colchester United have allowed highly-rated goalkeeper Dean Gerken to leave the club on loan, whilst they have also confirmed the signing of Lewis Gobern. 23-year-old Gerken has lost his place in recent weeks with veteran Jimmy Walker coming in from West Ham on loan. Now Colchester boss Paul Lambert has allowed Gerken to leave the club on an initial one-month loan and promotion chasing Darlington have been quick to snap him up. "I spoke to Dean on Wednesday ahead of the game against Hornchurch in the Essex Senior Cup," Colchester goalkeeping coach Ademola Bankole explained. "I told him that it is better for him to go out on loan rather than just sit on the bench here. No matter how well you train, you can't get better if you don't play. "If you make a mistake, you need to be playing regularly to get out there and make sure that it won't happen in the next game."

More changes

Gerken is also not the only player leaving the Community Stadium as striker Sunday Wasiu has joined League Two Luton Town on loan. The 24-year-old will spend an initial month at Kenilworth Road. One player arriving at the club is Wolves winger Lewis Gobern. The 23-year-old wide-man is making his comeback from injury and is eligible to make his debut against Cheltenham this weekend.
