Burton Albion boss Paul Peschisolido has expressed his disappointment after missing out on the signing of Ian Breckin.
Experienced defender Breckin is available on a free transfer after being released by Nottingham Forest at the end of last season.
He was wanted by Football League new boys Burton, but Peschisolido has confirmed the 33-year-old has agreed to join another club.
Peschisolido said: "We were very close to getting Ian, which shows we have set our standards high.
"I'm disappointed we missed out on him, but we are speaking to other players of a similar pedigree."
Breckin is expected to sign a contract with Burton's League Two rivals Chesterfield, where the stopper spent five years earlier in his career.
