Sheridan secures first signing as manager

Veteran defender Ian Breckin has clinched a return to Chesterfield following his departure from Nottingham Forest. Breckin was released by Forest at the end of last season and had been wanted by Football League new boys Burton Albion. However, the centre-half has accepted a two-year contract to rejoin Chesterfield, where he spent five seasons earlier in his career. "I am delighted to be returning to Chesterfield at a time of historic change for the club with the move to the new stadium," Breckin told the club's official website. He becomes John Sheridan's first signing and the new Spireites boss is delighted to have added a player of Breckin's experience to his squad. Sheridan said: "I am really pleased to sign a player with great experience who has a hunger to help us get out of League Two. "We have done well to get him as a number of other clubs were competing for his signature." Breckin made 249 appearances for Chesterfield during his previous spell with the club before he joined Wigan Athletic in 2002.
