Former Champions League winner goes back to Brazil

Werder Bremen have allowed Carlos Alberto to return to Brazil to join Vasco da Gama on a permanent basis. The 26-year-old attacking midfielder failed to make an impression for the Bundesliga outfit after joining for around £7million from Corinthians three years ago. The Brazil international failed to live up to expectations at the Weserstadion, making just two senior appearances before retuning to his homeland on loan before finally making an impression at Vasco. Bremen general manager Klaus Allofs confirmed that an agreement had been reached with the former Champions League winner, who scored the opening goal in Porto's 3-0 victory over Monaco in the 2004 final under manager Jose Mourinho. Allofs told Deutzsche Presseagentur: "We have reached an agreement regarding him. He will therefore not be returning to Werder Bremen." Meanwhile, Bremen have handed trials to two Peruvian 21-year-olds - defender Aldo Corzo arrives from Universidad San Martin and striker Juan Jose Barros joins from Universitario de Deportes.
