Grayson offers trial to former Hammers defender

Leeds have taken former West Ham defender Calum Davenport on trial. Davenport, who has not played since being stabbed in both legs a year ago, is looking for a new club after leaving the Hammers earlier this summer. Nottingham Forest cast an eye over the centre-back earlier this month as he seeks to find new employers following a traumatic time off the field. Leeds boss Simon Grayson has invited the former Tottenham and Coventry man to train with the Whites squad as he decides whether or not to pursue his interest in the 27-year-old. "He's training with us," Grayson told the club's official website.

Opportunity

"Glynn knows him well from West Ham. He is available, and we have given him the opportunity to train with us. "He looked fit and strong, he's got a bit of work to do, but we'll see how he goes. He is a good player. "He's spent time doing his re-hab, and we'll give him the opportunity to get fit and really impress. "There's no timescale, it might be a week, it might a month. We'll see how he is when he gets fit and ready to play and we'll take things from there."
