The scout reports...

The Sky Sports Scout takes a look at one of the rising stars of Turkish football, Besiktas' Ismail Koybasi. The attack-minded left-back has made a rapid rise after first being spotted by Gaziantepspor just four years ago. Koybasi was not a late developer, but his father wanted him to concentrate on his education which meant he was limited to playing football for amateur sides Iskenderunspor and Iskenderun Kartalspor. He also began playing as a forward, but soon reverted to left-back where he found himself at home. And it was whilst he was playing for Iskenderun that he was spotted by Gaziantepspor officials, who immediately made moves to sign him. After just two-years in the youth ranks, he was handed his first professional contract in May 2008. Within weeks of signing he made his debut and that season he established himself as first-choice. By the end of the season, which had also seen him called up for Turkey's Under 19s, Under 20s and Under 21s, he was being chased by all four of his country's biggest clubs - Fenerbahce, Galatasaray, Trabzonspor and Besiktas. After considering his options, Koybasi opted for a move to Besiktas - who paid £5million plus two-plays for his signature. Just a matter of months after moving to Besiktas, Koybasi astonishing rise through the ranks saw him handed his international debut - just three years after he signed his first contract. Koybasi is now emerging as one of the most highly-rated young defenders in Europe. Likened to Roberto Carlos, the Besiktas youngster admits that the former Fenerbahce star was somebody he tried to emulate. And Koybasi is not dissimilar to Carlos. Stature wise he is considerably taller than the Brazilian although because of his slight build that is deceptive. Koybasi has a wonderful left-foot which is the immediate stand-out feature, but he already possesses main top-class qualities. He is very strong in the tackle, and has excellent pace.

The scout says...

Koybasi admits his dream is to play in La Liga, and if his progress continues, it surely will not be long before some of Europe's elite come calling. Besiktas will do their best to try and keep hold of Koybasi, but that could prove a difficult task over the next season or so.
