Former Liverpool striker Andras Simon has joined Eredivisie club Excelsior on a free transfer.
The 20-year-old Hungarian, who failed to make a senior appearance for the Reds during his time on Merseyside, has penned a six-month deal with the Dutch side.
Simon admits he grew frustrated playing in the reserves at Liverpool and says he requested the Premier League club end his contract.
"I want to play, that's the most important thing for me. And not only in a reserve team," he told
Nemzeti Sport.
"In Liverpool I could've only played in the reserves but I wanted more. So I asked the club to terminate my contract.
"Excelsior made an approach to sign me and I thought 'this is a great challenge for me.'"
Crucial
Simon, who spent time on loan at Spanish club Cordoba last year, feels the move to Rotterdam will be crucial in developing his international career with Hungary Under-21s having earned his debut in 2009.
He added: "I felt good at Cordoba when I played in Spain on loan but the Dutch league may be the place for me where I can prove my abilities.
"It's important for me to be involved in the Under-21 national team and I know that for the call-up I must play regularly."
