UAE international will not be heading to France this summer
Lyon have had an offer for United Arab Emirates international Hamdan Al-Kamali turned down.
The 22 year-old is a target for Lyon boss Remi Garde who is keen to use the versatile defender as a ball-playing sweeper in his squad next season.
"I have watched the player in his recent appearances with his club, Olympic national team and the senior national team and would like to confirm that he's the right person for us," Garde was quoted as saying in
The Khaleej Times.
"Al-Kamali is talented, well-built and has a strong foot in executing the free-kicks over and above his qualities as a leader on the pitch.
"He's an experienced player and I have watched him perform convincingly in the UAE friendly against Dynamo Bucharest (last Wednesday)."
Contract
However, Al-Kamali's club Al-Wahda have rejected Lyon's overtures and are adamant the player will not be leaving.
"We have apologised that he cannot go even though (Lyon) made an offer for next season," deputy chief executive officer Khaled Awadh said on
Sport360.
"The offer has been with us for a month, but we have written back and apologised to them because he has a contract with us and is still one of our players. He will be with us next season."
