Europa League review

A Jordan Follows double gave Llanelli a first-leg win in their Europa League tie with Dinamo Tbilisi.

Llanelli joy tempered by late away goal by Georgians

A Jordan Follows double gave Llanelli a 2-1 win in their Europa League second qualifying round first leg against Dinamo Tbilisi. Follows struck early in each half to give the Welsh side hope of dumping out a side which has appeared in the main stages of the competition 11 times and won the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1981. But the tie was left in the balance as the Georgians claimed what could prove to be a crucial away goal late on. Lloyd Grist was deemed to have fouled Irakli Lekvtadze and David Odikadze converted from the spot, boosting his side's chances for next week's second leg. Another Welsh side, The New Saints, let a 1-0 lead slip as they went down 3-1 at home to Denmark's Midtjylland. Steve Evans gave TNS a 59th-minute lead but it was quickly cancelled out by Rilwan Hassan before Danny Olsen and substitute Mads Albaek struck for the visitors late on.

Irish hope

St Patrick's Athletic grabbed an away goal as they lost 2-1 to Kazakhstan's Shakhter Karagandy. Nikola Vasiljevic gave Shakhter the lead and although substitute Dave McMillan equalised for the Irish side, Vasiljevic popped up again to give his side a first-leg advantage. Dare Vrsic struck twice as another Irish side, Bohemians, went down 2-0 to Olimpija Ljubljana in Slovenia. Vrsic converted a penalty after Ollie Cahill fouled Filip Valencic in first-half stoppage time and the midfielder then curled home a free-kick in the 76th minute. Northern Ireland's Glentoran suffered a disappointing 2-0 home defeat to Vorskla Poltava. Roman Bezus and Ahmed Januzi both struck in the first half for the Ukrainian visitors.
