Nurnberg have expressed their disappointment that their hopes of signing Bayern Munich's Takashi Usami on loan appear to be slim.
The 19-year-old moved to the Allianz Arena at the beginning of the season on loan from Japanese outfit Gamba Osaka with a view to a permanent deal.
But Usami has made just one brief substitute appearance for Bayern in the Bundesliga and has no plans to stay with the title challengers.
The news comes as a setback to Nurnberg, who had hoped the forward would sign for Bayern and then be available for loan.
Nurnberg general manager Martin Bader told
BILD: "We will not publicly discuss our transfer planning. But it is a fact we have monitored Takashi Usami.

"We had been hoping he would decide to stay on with Bayern Munich, so that we could come in and agree a loan deal."
Meanwhile, relegation-threatened Nurnberg, who host Cologne on Saturday, are hoping their results will begin to improve once Per Nilsson returns from injury.
The Sweden international has played just once in the Bundesliga this season due to a string of injuries and he is only expected to be back from a ligament problem at the end of February.
But Nilsson has offered no guarantees with regards to a turnaround in form, as he told
Kicker-Sportmagazin: "It would not be automatically better with me in the first team.
"We are good in spirit and we are good in running, however, we are lacking football skills at this moment.
"I am definitely longing to have a good comeback, but we need to stay realistic."
