Rhys Murphy became the second player to join Crawley on Thursday after sealing a 93-day loan move from Oldham.

Murphy's switch, which is subject to Football League ratification, was confirmed just hours after the club brought in midfielder Ross Jenkins.

The 24-year-old striker - like Jenkins - is now available to go straight into Crawley's squad for their clash with Yeovil on Saturday.

Murphy began his career at Arsenal, spending three years at the Gunners without turning out for the first team, and he had spells with Brentford, Preston, Dutch club Telstar and Dagenham & Redbridge before joining the Latics.

His progress last season was hampered by a knee injury, but he has made 14 appearances for Oldham.

"I know all about Rhys, he can definitely score goals at this level," Crawley boss Mark Yates told the club's website.

"Goalscoring is definitely an area where we need to improve. Apart from Mansfield, which I hope was a one-off, we have made ourselves hard to beat but we do need to get more goals, not just from the strikers but all over the pitch.

"Rhys is 6ft 1in and not only is he good in the air he is also an excellent footballer with good movement and a physicality to his game which you need in League 2. He's with us for three months and I'm confident he will make a good impression here if we can get good service into him."
