Hull City reject Middlesbrough second offer of £5m for Harry Maguire

Hull City have rejected a second bid of £5m from Middlesbrough for defender Harry Maguire, according to Sky sources.

Sky sources understand Middlesbrough had submitted a £4m bid for the centre-half, but increased their offer by an extra £1m to try and secure his services. However, Hull have declined the improved sum.

Boro, who got promoted to the Premier League with Hull last season, tried to sign Borussia Dortmund defender Neven Subotic but the move broke down two weeks ago, with the Serbia international requiring surgery on a rib problem that could keep him out for most of the 2016/17 campaign.

Maguire came on as a substitute in the Tigers' 1-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday in the Sky Bet Championship play-off final, with Steve Bruce choosing club captain Michael Dawson and Curtis Davies as his preferred pairing in central defence.
