European Paper Talk: Dries Mertens has €28m release clause

Italy

Dries Mertens has a release clause of just €28million (£24.7m). The Belgium international has been in prolific form so far this season for Napoli, scoring nine goals in 10 Serie A matches. The 30-year-old contract runs until 2020, but the Partenopei are worried about the low fee interested clubs would have to pay to poach him. (Gazzetta dello Sport)

Napoli's Faouzi Ghoulam, who had been the subject of Juventus, Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool transfer rumours has reached an agreement to sign a new four-year contract with the club. The 26-year-old's new contract will also include the option of a fifth year and he will earn around €3million per season, in addition to bonuses. (Gazzetta dello Sport)

AC Milan have given their confidence to current boss Vincenzo Montella after their 2-0 loss to Juventus last night. The Rossoneri have lost five of their 11 Serie A matches this season despite spending big in the summer, and have managed just one win and a draw in the last six. (Corriere dello Sport)

France

With Angel Di Maria's future at Paris Saint-Germain uncertain amid Barcelona transfer rumours, PSG captain Thiago Silva says he doesn't want the Argentine to leave.

"Di Maria is very important for us," he said. "I hope that he is going to stay with us." (Le Parisien)

Spain

With Paco Alcacer struggling for minutes at Barcelona under Ernesto Valverde, he could be set for a return to his hometown Valencia, with the forward wanted by Levante. If they can't pull off a shock move for the 24-year-old, they could turn their attention to former Manchester City striker Enes Unal, who has failed to impress since his summer move to Villarreal. Germany

Germany boss Joachim Low isn't thinking about possibly taking the Bayern Munich job this summer when Jupp Heynckes leaves. He says his only focus is next summer's World Cup in Russia. (Sport Bild)
