Dundee United will name Robbie Neilson as their new manager within the next 24-48 hours, according to Sky sources.
Neilson has been out of work since being sacked by MK Dons in January this year.
He was previously the head coach of Hearts, guiding the club to the Scottish Championship title in 2015 before leading them to a third-place finish in the Premiership the following year.
He joined MK Dons in December 2016 but spent just over a year in charge at the club.
Dundee United sacked Csaba Laszlo last month after a 5-1 home loss to Ross County.
Laszlo took charge in November last year but failed to guide United to promotion from the Championship after losing to Livingston in the play-off semi-finals.
This season United suffered early exits in both the Challenge Cup and Betfred Cup.
Assistant manager Laurie Ellis was in charge for Saturday's 2-0 defeat away to Ayr United.
