EFL essential stats: Sheffield United's points haul, Leeds and Brentford's battle

Chris Wilder's side sit top of Sky Bet Championship

We take a look at the top stats and facts from the weekend's action in the Sky Bet Championship, League One and League Two.

Blades on the march

Sheffield United ended the weekend top of the pile in the Championship after recording their eighth win in 10 games since mid-August.

The Blades have recovered well from losing their opening two games - since the weekend of August 10/11, Chris Wilder's men have averaged 2.5 points per game - the joint-best average of any team in English football.

Bielsa's different battle

Leeds and Brentford drew 1-1 in the early Saturday kick-off and while both teams have won plaudits for their attacking play this season, this game was more of a battle.

Leeds were forced into making 28 tackles - the joint-most they have made in a game this season - and Marcelo Bielsa's men completed a season-low 70 per cent of passes as Brentford came within a few minutes of leaving Elland Road with three points.

Luk sharp

Lukas Jutkiewicz scored a hat-trick in Birmingham's 3-1 win over Rotherham despite only having three shots - the first time this has happened in either of the top two divisions since March, when Mohamed Salah scored four goals from four shots in Liverpool's 5-0 Premier League win over Watford.

Jutkiewicz has scored five in his last three appearances after also netting a double against Ipswich, meaning that since September 29, he has scored as many league goals as in the whole of last season. The forward has six goals in all so far this term.

Karanka's revenge

Aitor Karanka enjoyed a happy return to his former club Middlesbrough, leading Nottingham Forest to a 2-0 win at the Riverside Stadium.

Joe Lolley and Lewis Grabban scored for Forest, with Boro conceding at home in the league for the first time this season. Lolley became the first visiting player at the Riverside to score in a Championship game for six months after Bristol City's Milan Djuric netted in mid-April.

Swans stunned

Ipswich finally got their first win under Paul Hurst, beating Swansea 3-2 at the Liberty Stadium, but Swansea boss Graham Potter will wonder how.

Potter's side had 10 more shots than Ipswich, nearly twice as many touches in the opposition box and played almost three times as many passes.

Barnsley bonanza

The big game in League One pitted Peterborough - second in the table at kick-off - with Barnsley in sixth but the Tykes earned a thumping 4-0 win. Daniel Stendel's side have blown hot and cold this season but have been irresistible when in the mood. This was their third victory by a four-goal margin this term; no team in the top four divisions has recorded more.

Macclesfield misery

Mark Yates left his role as Macclesfield manager on Monday, leaving the Silkmen bottom of League Two and without a win in 12 games.

Macclesfield are the only team waiting to record a win in the EFL this season and, across their last two spells at this level, are currently on a 35-game winless streak in League Two since beating Port Vale on New Year's Eve, 2011.
