Tottenham have confirmed defender Jan Vertonghen is out until December with a hamstring injury.

Vertonghen was substituted at half-time in Tottenham's 2-0 win at Huddersfield on September 29.

His absence will come as a blow to Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino, who had criticised Belgium head coach Roberto Martinez for publicly ruling out Vertonghen for up to six weeks.

The 31-year-old, who was not included in Belgium's squad for their upcoming games against Switzerland and the Netherlands, still had a second scan on Monday but those results have proven Martinez right.

The Belgium international will miss key Premier League fixtures against Manchester City on October 29 and Chelsea on November 24.

Vertonghen will also miss three of the four remaining fixtures in the group stages of the Champions League but could be back for the trip to the Nou Camp to face Barcelona on December 11.
