As the weeks tick by and the January transfer window edges ever closer, clubs across Europe will be shaping their shortlists and sounding out players' representatives.

This means the media, at both home and abroad, isn't short of news. So we asked our friends at Football Whispers to round up all the latest talk and transfer gossip from the Continent.

Germany

Nabil Fekir is a Bayern Munich transfer target and the German champions sent their chief scout to France to watch him in action. The Lyon playmaker is currently valued at €70m and is contracted to the Ligue 1 side until 2020, but the Bayern could line up a bid for his services in the new year. (Kicker)

Spain

Guti is being lined up to replace Julen Lopetegui in the hot seat at Real Madrid following the team's poor start to the season. The former Real midfielder is currently working in Turkey as Besiktas assistant manager, but Madrid president Florentino Perez has identified him as the perfect man to turn the club's fortunes around. Lionel Messi begins his rehabilitation program after suffering an arm fracture against Sevilla. The Barcelona captain is expected to be out for up to three weeks, which will see him miss the club's Champions League clash against Inter on Wednesday and next weekend's El Clasico. (Marca)

Real Madrid are interested in signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic from LA Galaxy in January. The veteran striker is under contract with the MLS outfit but a loan deal could be a viable option. (Cope)

Neymar fuelled speculation linking him with a return to Barcelona by visiting the city over the weekend. The Paris Saint-Germain superstar shared a video on social media of him and Barca midfielder Arthur walking around the city, with the caption: "Now I am in Barcelona". (Marca)

However, Barcelona president Jose Maria Bartomeu says there are no plans for the club to bring Neymar back to the Camp Nou. "He is not expected to return. He's gone. It's time for Ousmane Dembélé and Philippe Coutinho, but also for the whole team." (AS)

Italy

Real Madrid left-back Marcelo wants to follow Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid to Italy. The Brazilian is a Juventus transfer target and has already informed the Serie A leaders that he is keen to depart from the Bernabeu. (Tuttosport)

Gennaro Gattuso defended young goalkeeper Gigi Donnarumma after his mistake allowed Mauro Icardi to win the Milan derby for Inter in the dying seconds. "We lost the game together, not because of Donnarumma. We lost because we didn't play with the right courage." (Sky Italia)

While they won the derby Inter have been dealt a blow with Radja Nainggolan set to miss Inter's Champions League clash with Barcelona after injuring his ankle. "He's got to go to the hospital," Luciano Spalletti explained. "It is not just the game with Barcelona he will miss, he'll be out for a while." (Corriere dello Sport)

Roma will target Porto midfielder Hector Herrera when the transfer window reopens as Eusebio Di Francesco looks to bolster his midfield options. The 28-year-old will not be renewing his contract at the Estadio Do Dragao and the club will listen to offers in the region of €15m. The Mexican is also a Tottenham transfer target. (Calciomercato)

Genoa chairman Enrico Preziosi says that the club will not accept €50m for Krzysztof Piątek when the transfer window reopens. Napoli tabled a €35m bid for the Poland striker three weeks ago, but the Italian chief is hoping to hold on to the club's star man until June. (Calciomercato)
