A Roma fan accused of attacking Liverpool supporter Sean Cox has been remanded in custody after offering no plea to the charges against him.

Simone Mastrelli appeared at Sefton Magistrates Court on Friday and stood accused of assault and violent disorder.

The 30-year-old was extradited to the United Kingdom on Thursday. Mastrelli's case has now been passed onto Liverpool Crown Court, where he will appear for a Plea and Trial preparation hearing on Friday, March 1.

The incident dates back to April 2018, when Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool hosted Roma at Anfield for the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals.

Cox, from Co Meath in Ireland, was left with brain injuries after the attack. Mastrelli was charged with a Section 20 assault and violent disorder.
