Leeds missed the chance to go top of the Sky Bet Championship table as they fell to a 1-0 defeat at QPR on Tuesday night.
QPR had lost seven league games on the spin but Luke Freeman's clever finish in the second half at Loftus Road denied Leeds the opportunity to climb above Norwich and Sheffield United. They stay third in the table.
Birmingham climbed back up to eighth and to within three points of the top six as they won 2-1 at Bristol City.
Connor Mahoney scored a deflected opener for the Blues at Ashton Gate, while Michael Morrison doubled their advantage shortly after half-time.
Famara Diedhiou pulled one back for Bristol City, who were without a manager as Lee Johnson served a one-match ban, but it wasn't enough as they fell to a second straight defeat.
Hull City won a first game in five as they saw off Millwall 2-1 at the KCOM Stadium. Jarrod Bowen put the Tigers in front before they were pegged back by Shaun Hutchinson, but Marc Pugh struck the winner on his first start for the club.
Steve Bruce continued his good start to life in charge of Sheffield Wednesday as Steven Fletcher scored both goals for them in a 2-0 win over Brentford.
