FREE TO WATCH: Highlights from Wolves’ match against Arsenal in the Premier League

Arsenal squandered a two-goal lead to blow the title race wide open as Wolves snatched a 2-2 draw in stoppage-time at Molineux.

Tom Edozie, 19, came off the bench to score the equaliser on his Premier League debut after a mix-up between Gabriel and David Raya amid extraordinary scenes as Mikel Arteta watched on in disbelief at how the Gunners lost control against the bottom club.

Bukayo Saka's early goal had looked set to make it a straightforward evening for the Premier League leaders with Arsenal utterly dominant in the first half. When Piero Hincapie scored his first goal for the club early in the second that should have been that.

But Hugo Bueno's stunning curled strike into the top corner altered the mood and Arsenal sat back, trying to hold on to their advantage. It was undone by Edozie's crisp strike that Riccardo Calafiori could not keep out to spark bedlam inside Molineux.

Arsenal extend their lead at the top to five points but Manchester City now have a game in hand and with Arteta's team still to travel to the Etihad Stadium this season, this could yet be seen as a major turning point in the Premier League title race.

Merson slams 'slow and lazy' Arsenal

Sky Sports' Paul Merson:

"If Man City win all their games now on, they win the league. It's disappointing.

Also See:

"You can't play in second gear. When Wolves went to 2-2, there was an urgency. They didn't have that before. You can't play like that. Every game is a cup final to the end.

"You've got to play at a high tempo. If Arsenal play at a high tempo, Wolves can't live with them. But to play the way they played, and it's slow and lazy, and they are giving the ball away, then Wolves are always going to be in the game.

"That could come back to bite them. That is really, really disappointing tonight.

"It's going come on full blast now, being bottle jobs, melting. It's full on now drawing away at Brentford and then being two goals up against the worst team in the league."

Team news

Jose Sa and Hugo Bueno returned to the Wolves team as two of the four changes from the win over Grimsby. Andre Gomes and Jean-Ricner Bellegarde also came in.

Declan Rice, Martin Zubimendi, Jurrien Timber, David Raya, Gabriel and Piero Hincapie all returned for Arsenal after being rested against Wigan. Bukayo Saka continued at No 10.

Arteta: We deserve the hits

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta talking to Sky Sports:

"It's difficult to accept it in the second half how we didn't perform at any level in any aspect of the game, at the standards that are required to win a game in the Premier League and we paid the price.

"Too many things that went wrong was one after the other. It's best not to judge it. We are all too emotional about it and it's not the moment to do it. It's a moment when you don't perform, and you are at this level, and expectations are where they are. You have to take the hit, because as well, we deserve it."

Saka: We've lost momentum

Bukayo Saka REACTS to Arsenal squandering two-goal lead against Wolves

Arsenal's Bukayo Saka speaking to Sky Sports:

"It's very flat. I'm very disappointed with the result and especially how we played in the second half, it's far from the level that we've set this season.

"It's time for us to reflect on the few performances and just fix the issues immediately so we can get back to winning games and going on a run and build momentum because we've lost that a bit right now."

Unlikely comeback in stats

This was the first time in Premier League history that a side starting the day bottom of the table avoided defeat to the side starting the day top despite trailing by two or more goals.

Arsenal failed to win a Premier League away game in which they had a two-goal lead for the first time since April 2023 at West Ham, ending an 18-game winning run on the road when two goals ahead in the league.

Wolves avoided defeat in a Premier League home game in which they trailed by two or more goals for the first time since beating Manchester City 3-2 in December 2019, ending a 31-game losing run on home soil from two down.

Smith: Man City will fancy it now

Sky Sports' Alan Smith:

"We've spoken so often about them being the best team, the best squad in the league. But that counts for nothing if you haven't got that composure and ability to play and get results under pressure. That word bottle will be used quite a bit in the next few days.

"Man City will be thinking they can feel our breath on the shoulder and with their experience, with Guardiola's experience, they'll be really fancying it now.

"Obviously, it's a big game against Newcastle for them at the weekend, but they can almost feel the nerves of the Arsenal team watching that tonight."

Who is Tom Edozie?

The Wolves youngster whose swing of his right foot altered the complexion of the title race is not even well known to his own supporters. Even his manager is finding out about him. "We are still learning about him as well," said Edwards of Edozie.

The 19-year-old attacking midfielder signed a professional contract in 2024 and has appeared as an unused substitute prior to this game but did not even have his own Wikipedia page at the point at which his effort deflected its way into Arsenal's net.

Rob Edwards says he wanted more backing from the Wolves fans against Arsenal

"He has impressed us with some really nice moments. He is technically a gifted player, but we're still learning about him ourselves. We just had a feeling," added Edwards.

"JJ [Bellegarde], I thought, had been brilliant in the game. Obviously, he's been out a while. Sometimes you have a feeling and then that gut has proved right. As he was coming on, I just put my arm round him and said, this could be your moment, go and take it.

"The first couple of touches, I think it was difficult. Declan Rice breathing down his neck. It was a bit new for him, but then I thought he took his goal brilliantly. It was a lovely moment for him."
