Wigan closing on Danish midfielder

Wigan Athletic are reported to be closing in on Denmark international Jakob Poulsen. The AGF Aarhus midfielder has recently been away on World Cup duty in South Africa, but was unable to help his country progress through the group stages. His attention has now turned to resolving any issues regarding his future. He was a target for Serie A giants Lazio during the January transfer window, but shunned the opportunity to move to Italy. Numerous clubs continue to monitor his progress, though, and he is expected to move on this summer.

Hopeful

Cologne and Paris St Germain are two of the clubs known to have expressed an interest in the 26-year-old, but they look set to be pipped to the post. Wigan appear to have stolen a march in the quest to secure Poulsen's signature, with Roberto Martinez keen to take him to the Premier League. The Danish ace admits he would welcome the opportunity to try his luck in England and has hinted that a switch to the DW Stadium could be on the cards. "I hope something will happen," Poulsen told Ekstra Bladet.
