Middlesbrough boss Aitor Karanka wants new signing Milos Veljkovic to be his utility man.

The 19-year-old Serbia youth international, who joined Boro from Tottenham until January on Thursday, can play either in central defence or midfield, and Karanka intends to use him in both roles.

Karanka told the Northern Echo: "When you have the quality that Milos has, you can play as either a defender or in central midfield. I will use him in the position where we need him most.

"I spoke with him before he came here and told him that I am going to use him in both positions.

"He is here to challenge for a place in the team. If he gets his chance and takes it, he will keep on playing because I always say that the age of a player is not important to me.

"The most important thing is the performance on the training ground and the pitch, and Milos knows that when his chance comes around - and he will get one - if he takes it, he will carry on in the team."
