Three players from both Liverpool and Manchester City have been shortlisted for this year’s Premier League player of the year award.

Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Sergio Aguero, Raheem Sterling and Bernardo Silva have been joined by Chelsea's Eden Hazard.

Salah, last season's winner, did not make the six-strong shortlist of the PFA's player of the season award last month.

But he faces stiff competition to retain his Premier League crown, with van Dijk having been named PFA Player of the Year and Sterling collecting the Young Player of the Year award.
