Adnan Januzaj has been withdrawn from Manchester United's U21 squad for Monday's game at Reading because Louis van Gaal does not think he is fit enough.

Van Gaal recalled Januzaj from his loan spell at Borussia Dortmund last week after United became annoyed at his lack of game time in Germany.

The 20-year-old started just three matches during his four-month spell in Germany, all of which came in the Europa League.

Van Gaal is keen for Januzaj to regain his fitness with the U21 side before bringing him back into the first-team squad and had initially identified Monday's game against Reading as the ideal place for him to start.

But the Dutchman is not convinced Januzaj, who last played for Dortmund over a month ago, is fit enough to play in the game at Adams Park.
