Zlatan Ibrahimovic says he was pleased to see Bastian Schweinsteiger play for Manchester United in the EFL Cup last night

Zlatan Ibrahimovic says he was delighted to see Bastian Schweinsteiger make his first appearance of the season for Manchester United during Wednesday's match with West Ham.

The former Germany and Bayern Munich captain was banished to train with the reserves when Jose Mourinho deemed him surplus to requirements after taking over as manager.

However, Mourinho recently ended the 32-year-old's exile and he was introduced as a substitute in the 86th minute of United's 4-1 victory over the Hammers - much to the delight of the Old Trafford crowd.

Ibrahimovic said of Schweinsteiger: "I'm happy for him. I'm happy because the situation for him hasn't been easy.

"He has been working hard, he's kept patient and mentally it's not easy - especially when you have had a career just like his.
