Campbell set for bench role

Arsenal defender Sol Campbell looks likely to be on the bench for the FA Cup final.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is ready to gamble on the inexperienced duo of Kolo Toure and Philippe Senderos for Saturday's FA Cup final and leave Sol Campbell on the bench.

The England stopper has endured a frustrating season of injury but returned towards the close of the campaign in an attempt to prove his fitness.

It had been expected that in-form Senderos would make way for Campbell but such has been the Swiss defender's form, that Wenger is reluctant to break-up his promising partnership with Toure.

The early indications in the build-up to what should be a fascinating clash, live on Sky Sports 1,  are that Campbell will have to content himself with a place on the bench, with the player having seemingly accepted his fate.

''I'm ready if the gaffer wants me to play,'' said Campbell.

''If not, then so be it. I've had a couple of games and I feel really good.

''I know the manager doesn't like changing the squad when they are going well and you have to be realistic and professional about it.

''I have no illusions here. I have to wait. It is a question of whether the manager feels he needs experience at any point.

''I have tons of that. I want to play but if he chooses different then I will respect that.

''He is a fantastic manager and has made big decisions before.''
