United boss has praised Serbian's defensive qualities

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has hailed Nemanja Vidic's no-nonsense attitude in defence. Vidic is renowned for his tough-tackling nature, and has provided the perfect complement for his technically gifted defensive partner Rio Ferdinand. The Serbian has formed a formidable partnership with the England international, and their understanding provided a solid foundation for United's title success last season.

No messing

Ferguson has likened Vidic to Red Devils legend Steve Bruce for his constant bravery in defence. And he has also expressed his delight at the manner in which Vidic is not afraid to put his foot through the ball when necessary . "Nemanja reminds me of Steve Bruce in the sense he always asks a question of defenders," Ferguson explained. "He wants to know whether they have the courage to put their head in front of his. "There is no question he can play, there is not a doubt about it. But he doesn't mess about in terms of clearing the ball. He acts like a defender."
Attacking threat
The centre-half proved a useful option from set-pieces last term as he scored five goals, and Ferguson has backed Vidic to better last season's tally. "He got me five goals last season and has already got one this year," he added. "I think he can easily get between five and 10 because he has got just the right qualities."
