Lucas Leiva says Jurgen Klopp has outlined the key to success in his first Liverpool training sessions - and it involves "aggression".

Klopp has taken his first full training session with the Liverpool players following the international break ahead of his first game in charge against Tottenham at White Hart Lane on Saturday.

He was joined in the afternoon by assistant manager Zeljko Buvac who arrived at Melwood on schedule despite press reports of difficulties over a work permit.

Lucas has been impressed by the intensity of Klopp's sessions - "he likes to put in everything" - and believes his passion and appetite for hard work has made a good first impression on his new players.

"It has been very positive," Lucas told LFCTV. "He seems to be very passionate - he likes to put in everything that he has and he asks the players for the same.

"Be very intense, be aggressive with yourself, is what he has been saying.

"Always try to be better, always give 10 metres more, because that will be the key to success.

"He seems to be a very open manager and someone that likes to be close to the players, but very straight as well. That's what I've learned from the last couple of days and I think it was a positive way to start."

Under Klopp, Borussia Dortmund were known for their up-tempo pressing style of football, and Lucas is confident it is a philosophy that will translate well on Merseyside.

"He was so successful at his last club," Lucas continued. "Of course, when a manager like him comes it always gives you a lot of hope.

"It's a fresh start for every player. His CV is amazing. So I think everyone is really excited to learn with him and improve as a player and a team, because that's the only way we will achieve what we want."
