Former Liverpool striker John Aldridge believes the return of Daniel Sturridge and Jordan Henderson after injury will offer a further boost to Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Liverpool have three wins from their last four matches after a James Milner penalty proved enough to beat Swansea 1-0 on Sunday to leave them just six points behind leaders Manchester City.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says he is proud of the fight his players showed in their win over Swansea

The victory over Swansea was the first under Klopp at Anfield and with Sturridge coming on as a second half substitute following a long-term knee injury and Henderson also introduced after he recovered from a broken foot, Aldridge sees cause for growing optimism.

"Come Christmas and the New Year, the fixtures come thick and fast and you need everyone fit," he told Sky Sports News HQ.

"Those two have been sorely missed. Hopefully Daniel can get himself fit and get out on the pitch, because we need his goals.

"Jordan came on and I thought he was excellent. When you consider he has not played for two months, only trained, he made a difference.

"It was important Liverpool went out and got the right man for the job and it looks at this point in time as if they have done that.

"Everyone loves his demeanour and the way he portrays himself, he is like a breath of fresh air about the place.

"That was his first league win at Anfield and it is important we make it a bit of a fortress.

"We have played all the hard teams away from home now and with all due respect to the other teams, all those teams have to come to Anfield next year, so the top four is in our hands."
