Ragnar Klavan has welcomed the arrival of Virgil van Dijk at Liverpool, even though it means increased competition at the heart of the side's defence.

The 32-year-old Estonian scored a 94th-minute winner to secure Liverpool all three points away to Burnley on Monday, but his playing time could be curtailed with the £75m signing of Van Dijk from Southampton.

However, Klavan is relishing the challenge, saying: "He is a good addition to our team. It is like it is for everyone: there is competition and competition is good for all places,"

Klavan became the first Estonian to score in the Premier League when he headed home at Turf Moor, but the defender says he does not relish the limelight.

He said: "It was good. We kept on fighting and got three points.

"Those were three really important points but I'm not really one who wants to shine in the light.

He said: "It is always a special game. When we are at our best there is a great chance we will succeed."
