Andy Robertson admits Manchester City are deserving Premier League champions after Liverpool lost out in the title race on a dramatic final day

Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson admits Manchester City were a "joy to watch" despite losing out to them in the Premier League title race on Sunday.

Pep Guardiola's side retained their league title a point ahead of Liverpool with a 4-1 win over Brighton on the final day.

Liverpool's 2-0 win over Wolves left them finishing the season as runners-up despite accumulating an incredible 97 points.

A disappointed Robertson gave credit to the champions but insist Liverpool are "here to stay" as title contenders going forward.

"It's obviously a [feeling of] disappointment but also one of pride because we've had a fantastic season," he told Sky Sports News.

"We've come up against a fantastic team and we cannot deny that. Man City are world class and the way they have gone about their business this season, now we can say it, it has probably been a joy to watch.

Liverpool's Jurgen Klopp says that this season is the first step for his squad in their journey after they finished second in the Premier League

"They know that we are here and hopefully we are here to stay now.

"Last season they won it by god only knows how many points and now we have taken them down to the final day.

"Both of us have had an unbelievable tally so all credit goes to them.

"Hopefully we can use this. We'll win the league one of these years."

Liverpool's focus now turns to the Champions League final on June 1 when Jurgen Klopp's side face Tottenham at the Wanda Metropolitano stadium in Madrid.
