LIVERPOOL ON VAN DER SAR TRAIL?

LIVERPOOL are poised to swoop for Dutch goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar according to the Sunday tabloids.

Current Anfield number one Sander Westerveld proved inconsistent at times last season and Reds coach Gerard Houllier may see the Juventus custodian as an apt replacement if the price is right.

The ex-Ajax shot-stopper's future at the Delli Alpi looks bleak after the £23 million arrival of Gianluigi Buffon and the Dutchman could leave Turin for around £8 million.

Van der sar, 30, endured a difficult 2000/01 season with Juve making costly mistakes at home and abroad and may fancy a move to The Premier League to ensure his international place with the Oranjes.

Bundesliga big-spemders Borussia Dortmund are also thought to be interested in the giant keeper with Jens Lehmann struggling to recapture the form that earned him a move to Italian titans Milan.
