Thomas Vermaelen says that Arsenal can still win the Premier League

Former Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen says the Gunners can still overhaul Leicester and win the Premier League title.

With just one win from their last four league matches, Arsenal have fallen 11 points behind the table-topping Foxes.

However, Arsene Wenger's side have a game in hand and boast a record of beating the league leaders twice this season, and Vermaelen thinks they are still in contention to win their first league title since 2004.

"In England a lot of things can happen," Vermaelen told Sky Sports News HQ. "You see some crazy results every weekend. Leicester are doing great and are very consistent so you have to wait for them to drop points and hopefully Arsenal can have a good run.

"It's not easy, the last few weeks have been difficult for Arsenal, but I wish them well, it is a good club and I hope they can still win the league."

Vermaelen spent five seasons with Arsenal before leaving in 2014 to join Barcelona, where he has struggled for regular game time.

"It's a big club so there is a lot of competition, especially in the centre of defence," added Vermaelen, who has started just six matches this season. "You have to work hard. I try to do my best in training and play as much as I can."
