Sokratis Papastathopoulos has been linked with a move to the Emirates as Unai Emery enters his first transfer window as Arsenal head coach.

Sven Mislintat, the head of recruitment who worked with the 29-year-old centre-back during his 10-year spell at Dortmund, has identified the Greek defender as someone who can strengthen their back-line, according to The Telegraph.

Arsenal are also eyeing Juventus defender Mehdi Benatia, report Le10 Sport in France.

The 31-year-old has spent the last two years with Juventus, initially on loan before completing a permanent switch from Bayern last summer.

Arsenal made a late attempt to sign Fabinho before he joined Liverpool from Monaco, according to Sky sources.

The 24-year-old midfielder is admired by the Gunners' new boss Unai Emery, who tried to sign him at Paris Saint-Germain.
