Midfielder surprised by reaction from fans to his arrival

Papa Bouba Diop has expressed his satisfaction after completing his move to AEK Athens from Portsmouth. The Senegal midfielder had been expected to leave Fratton Park following Pompey's relegation from the Premier League and the club's financial situation. Portsmouth had been hoping to secure a €1million (£820,000) fee for the 32-year-old, but the exact price has not been disclosed. Diop has signed a two-year contract with AEK and is looking forward to the prospect of playing in Greek football. "I am satisfied with the outcome of my transfer," said Diop. "I was surprised by the fans who turned out to greet me at the airport. "I have seen AEK play in European matches and was impressed." The powerful midfielder joined Pompey from Fulham in 2007 and made 72 appearances during his time with the South Coast club.
