Danny Rose will not be available to start Tottenham's Champions League last-16 first leg against Borussia Dortmund because of a shin injury.

The Spurs left-back was substituted two minutes from the end of their 3-1 win against Leicester on Sunday with Kyle Walker-Peters replacing him, and Rose was absent from training on Tuesday morning.

Tottenham say Rose is still being treated for a wound on his shin and will only be on the bench if he is available at all, meaning a possible start for Jan Vertonghen on the left against their German opponents.

Boss Mauricio Pochettino said: "It's impossible for him [Rose] to start from the beginning, we need to assess in the morning whether he will be on the bench."

Harry Kane and Dele Alli, who are making good progress, were not spotted outside as Spurs trained at Hotspur Way, joining Rose on the sidelines.

Kane has not played since January 13 and was expected to be out until early March with the ankle injury he suffered at home to Manchester United.

Alli hurt his hamstring seven days after Kane's injury and he was given a similar return date.
