Antonio Nusa: Brentford's £25m deal for Club Brugge winger stalling

Teenage winger Nusa looked set to join Brentford for £25m and remain on loan at Club Brugge until the end of the season; there are complications, however, which mean the door could potentially re-open for other clubs; Tottenham and Chelsea have also been interested in the player

Brentford's deal to sign teenage Norwegian winger Antonio Nusa from Club Brugge is stalling.

On Sunday, Brentford agreed a £25m (€30m) deal in principle with Brugge to sign the 18-year-old, and were willing to allow the teenager to stay at the Belgian side on loan for the rest of the season.

However, both clubs are now doing further due diligence on Nusa's fitness after Brentford detected potential issues in his medical on Monday.

They remain hopeful they can still sign the player but it is unlikely they will do so under the current terms and are now considering their options.

The complications mean the door is potentially re-opening to other clubs. Earlier in January, Tottenham had been in talks over a deal for Nusa that would also have seen him remain at Brugge until the end of the season.

Spurs had also looked into signing the Norway international last summer, while Chelsea were also interested. There remains a chance Nusa remains a Brugge player for the rest of the season.

Nusa has four goals and three assists in 28 games for Club Brugge this season. He has made a total of 64 appearances for the club since joining from Norwegian side Stabaek in the summer of 2021.

Brentford have been among the most active Premier League sides in the January window, signing Sergio Reguilon on loan from Spurs, goalkeeper Hakon Rafn Valdimarsson from Elfsborg and midfielder Yunus Emre Konak from Sivasspor.

Spurs may be set to miss out on Nusa but they were able to strengthen their forward options with the loan signing of Timo Werner earlier this month.

Ange Postecoglou's side also brought in defender Radu Dragusin from Genoa.

The winter transfer window is open and will close at 11pm in England and 11.30pm in Scotland on Thursday February 1.

To ensure harmonisation with the major leagues in Europe, the closing dates were set following discussions with the EFL, DFL, Serie A, LaLiga, and LFP, who will all close their summer and winter windows on 1 September and 1 February respectively.
