Aston Villa have completed the signing of defender Frederic Guilbert from Caen, and have confirmed they will loan the player back to his former club.
The 24-year-old returns to the Ligue 1 side for the remainder of the season, before joining up with Villa in the summer.
Guilbert came through the Caen youth academy, before undertaking brief spells at both AS Cherbourg and Bordeaux and returning to his boyhood club.
He has been capped by France at Under 21 level.
Villa have also made a Deadline Day approach for Swansea's Leroy Fer, with hope of taking the midfielder on loan.
The Swansea captain's current deal is set to expire at the end of the season.
Fer signed for Swansea from QPR for £8m in 2016 and has made 24 appearances this season, scoring one goal.
