Leroy Fer is also attracting interest from Fenerbahce

Aston Villa have made a late approach to Swansea to discuss a possible loan deal for Leroy Fer, Sky Sports News understands.

The Swansea captain is a key player at the Sky Bet Championship club but his contract expires at the end of the season.

French side Lille were interested in signing the midfielder but it looks like Villa may be the preferred option for Fer.

The 29-year-old Netherlands international signed for Swansea from QPR for £8m in 2016 and has made 24 appearances this season, scoring one goal.

There's no guarantee it is a deal that Villa will get over the line, and they do have other targets they are also considering.

Turkish club Fenerbahce, who currently have Swansea's Andre Ayew on loan, have also been linked with Fer during this month's transfer window.
