Pep Guardiola has strongly insisted Phil Foden will not be leaving Manchester City on loan in January.

Foden scored his first home goal for boyhood club City in Sunday's 7-0 FA Cup third-round win over Sky Bet Championship side Rotherham.

The City academy graduate has struggled for first-team football this season, starting only six games, but Guardiola is keen to keep the player, who he said was a "diamond of English football".

Asked if he would be open to loaning Foden, he said: "Phil Foden loan? No way! No way, impossible.

"He's going to stay with us many, many years. Impossible. Believe me, if he plays, it's because we believe he can play.
