Danny Higginbotham says it would be "incredible" if Manchester City fail to get the points they need at Brighton to retain their Premier League crown.

City go to the Amex Stadium on Sunday, live on Sky Sports, knowing that a win will secure back-to-back titles for the first time in the club's history.

However, if City do drop points and Liverpool beat Wolves at Anfield, also live on Sky Sports, then Jurgen Klopp's side will win the league for the first time since 1990.

But, speaking on Sky Sports News, Higginbotham said he cannot see City slipping up against Chris Hughton's side.

"There always has to be a doubt but it would be incredible, it would be absolutely incredible and it would be a massive turn up if Brighton were to get a point off Manchester City," he said.

"I just think what Brighton have done throughout this season, they've just got over the line now. I know when you're down at the bottom there's so much pressure on you. When you get safe it's just a complete release of pressure.

"One of two things can happen, you can go and play with freedom or you relax a little bit more and a team like Manchester City then can take you apart.

"It's not over but I would find it incredible if Manchester City didn't go to Brighton and get what is required."

Pep Guardiola's side went back to the top of the table thanks to Vincent Kompany's spectacular winner against Leicester on Monday night and Higginbotham says it was a great example of how well City and Liverpool have handled the pressure during The Run In.

"The battle between them and Liverpool has been absolutely incredible," he added. "The pressure that has been on every game when Liverpool or Manchester City have gone first, then the other team has gone and won as well.

"They've dealt incredibly well with the pressure, as have Liverpool. All they (Liverpool) can do is win their game and hope that Manchester City slip up.

"But you go back to the game on Monday. They (Manchester City) were patient, they went about it in a way they thought would suit them. They never really changed from it and then a wonder-goal from Vincent Kompany.

"He's a legend of the football club. He's a leader, he's one of very few players left of his mentality, of his ilk, in the modern game.

"He's a player we just have to admire for as long as he is playing and it was a captain's performance as well."
