Atletico striker may yet decide to remain where he is

Sergio Aguero's father claims there is no guarantee his son will leave Atletico Madrid this summer. The Argentine forward has announced that it is his intention to take on a new challenge, with it his ambition to join a club that challenges for major honours on a regular basis. A cross-city switch to Real Madrid has been touted, although Atletico would rather not do business with their arch-rivals. Manchester City and Juventus are also believed to be keen, with Aguero's stock having been on the rise for some time now. He is currently away on international duty at the Copa America, but the speculation regarding his future continues to rumble on in Europe. It is well known that the 23-year-old has a €45million (£40m) release clause in his contract, and those currently chasing his signature have hinted that they would be prepared to part with such a fee. No deal has been struck as yet, though, and Aguero's father claims there is a chance the highly-rated forward will stay put.

Contract

"He will play with Atletico Madrid; he has two years to run on his contract," Leo Aguero told Radio La Red. He was, however, pressed further on the matter and went to admit that anything remains possible while the transfer window is open. He added: "I don't know yet (where he will be playing)." Aguero has plundered 100 goals in five seasons at Atletico and his team-mates, including club captain Antonio Lopez, are hoping he can be persuaded to stay. Lopez said: "Every team wants a guy like Kun (Aguero). I've played with very few players of his quality. "Right now he is an Atletico Madrid player and we await him with open arms. I'm sure that there is not going to be any sort of problem with the fans."
