Charlton Athletic's Ricky Holmes scored this rocket at Boundary Park as The Addicks beat Oldham 4-3 in a thriller in League One

Ricky Holmes scored an opening goal to remember in Charlton's 4-3 win over Oldham in Sky Bet League One.

In the 18th minute, the former Barnet, Portsmouth and Northampton winger broke the deadlock with a stunning strike from range. Holmes' 30-yard effort proved too much for goalkeeper Ben Wilson as he watched the ball rocket past him.

The 30-year-old's goal was the first in a seven-goal thriller against ten-men Oldham. The hosts reduced the deficit on 34 minutes through a Craig Davies penalty before Eoin Doyle - on loan from Preston - equalised six minutes into the second half.

Oldham's Ousmane Fane was sent off for a second caution and Fosu put Charlton back in front after 62 minutes. On-loan Rangers forward Joe Dodoo then added a fourth 10 minutes later.

Oldham reduced the deficit with eight minutes left through Jack Byrne but it wasn't enough in a game where Holmes stole the headlines.
